As you age your breast tissue starts to give way to the pull of gravity and skin starts to lose elasticity. Other biological changes like pregnancy and breastfeeding can also alter the shape and consistency of your breasts.

A mastopexy procedure, often referred to as a breast lift, is a popular way to restore the youthful look of your breasts, without having to resort to artificial implants. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has found that breast lifts continue to grow in popularly. Currently they are performed twice as other breast augmentation procedures.

The breast lift procedure raises your breasts by removing excess skin and tightening the skin. This effectively reshapes each breast and renews support.

Dr. Julie E. E. Kupersmith MD will employ an incision strategy based on your current breast shape. This might call for making an incision around the areola of each breast to adjust its size and location. From there an incision can be made down from the areola to the base of the breast to remove skin. This will help to tighten and lift the breast.

A different incision strategy adjusts the areola and includes a vertical incision down from the breast crease followed by a horizontal incision.

Whenever possible Dr. Julie E. E. Kupersmith MD will try to make the incisions in a natural crease in the breast. In time the incision lines will start to fade naturally.
